They Call Me Supermensch: A Backstage Pass to the Amazing Worlds of Film, Food, and Rock 'n' Roll
by Shep Gordon
As talented as she was, Anne didn’t have much of what you could call star quality, and she was pretty much the antithesis of cool. But I’d learned two things with Alice: stars aren’t born, they’re made; and if you put someone with people who are acknowledged to be cool, they become cool by association. To me, life is a miracle. It’s a miracle that I’m here, no matter what kind of day I’m having. It’s a miracle that I have this extraordinarily complex body that can feel both pleasure and pain. It’s a miracle that I have this amazingly complex brain that’s capable of both joy and sadness.

For me those are some of the greatest moments of my life, because I got to share them with my dad, knowing that he was going to be happy. We were going to a place where no one—not the dog, not my mother—was going to bother us.
And there’s no doing business at my house. If I hear somebody starting to talk shop or hustle another guest, I get right over there and end it. It’s not about business. Business is what you do elsewhere at other times.
Jerry has a coupon with me that goes all the way back to that day. I will gladly pay it back for the rest of my life. I will do anything I can do for him at any time. That’s what a coupon is.

"I have learned that fame has no intrinsic value. And I have seen what harm fame did to many of my friends and clients. The more fame they got, the more damage it seemed to do them."
"Two simple words came up over and over again: Thank you. I wake up in the morning and say thank you. I say it again when I go to sleep at night, and countless times in between."
